Taxes and pension burdens are the real reason for birth rate collapse in the developed world. It is impossible for a middle-class household to afford more than 1 child when they already have 1 pensioner to finance by default, 30-40% of their joint income goes to the state and outfitting a child with phone, tablet, laptop, peripherals & toys is way more expensive than it was to outfit a child in the 70s with paper books & notebooks and cheap toys.
