We were just in Italy. Many hotels advertise on American sites that they have A/C. They don't. They know we won't put up with hot rooms. We bought a fan to use to cool rooms so we could sleep.
They have to be against A/C to show that they are serious about climate change.
Hi Mike ! Many years ago it seems now , "we" were booked into a hotel RIMINI in central Rome near the railway station and not far from the Vatican , and were shown to our room , one at a time because the "LIFT" [ elevator] only had room for 2 suitcases and the attendant and one person [ porter ???? although I carried the suitcases !! ] . The entire set up was unusual to "us" , as the hotel was "sprinkled over several floors" and "we" all later congealed into a 'dining area' for meals in yet another part of the hotel
[ BUT...it had a view....of many rooftops , terracotta tiles and red-bricks ......and a nearby
bell tower with excellent acoustics too ! ].
Anyway , in the very dark , stuffy bathroom/toilet/storage area , was one small CLOSED window set high in the wall , and a CORD which I had assumed OPERATED an exhaust fan .
So I pulled it ....and nothing happened , so I pulled it several times....same result ! Nothing.
Shortly afterwards , as "we" were unpacking out suitcases there was a loud , urgent knock
on the door and a very agitated Italian gentleman from the front-desk enquiring , in English , "Are you alright ??? "........and "we" replied that , yes , "we" were alright ,
and so he departed looking slightly bemused !
A short while later , my wife visited said toilet "dungeon" and soon afterwards , there came another LOUDER KNOCK on the door ! Same agitated gentleman , but a little more insistent this time that he entered and saw for himself that "everything was alright ! "
By this time I had concluded that "this was carrying Italian hospitality a bit too far" and I rather rudely insisted that he explain his constant interruptions !
Shortly afterwards , I was apologising for my belligerent attitude ! It seems that my wife
on entering said "dungeon" had pulled on the cord , assuming that it operated a light and an exhaust fan.........and there was the problem ! It actually activated an ALARM SYSTEM and it alerted the staff to quickly attend to a medical [ or other] problem !!
Hence their concern when "we" said everything was OK ! Apparently that was seldom the case !! In any event......no exhaust fan , the light switch was on wall OUTSIDE THE BATHROOM and you turned it on BEFORE you entered [ an electrical precaution perhaps ? separation of water and electricity !!??]............................and certainly NO AIR CONDITIONING , and in reality , nowhere to actually install it anyway.
Fortunately , "we" were heat-tolerant in those days , "we" actually enjoyed sun-bathing , and it wasn't a problem to us THEN. NOW would be quite different ! I hate humidity and a hot-spell in Europe is usually a humid one as well , which makes them intolerably unpleasant and uncomfortable , and the days are SOOOOOOO LOOOOONNNNG !
And yet I LOVE Singapore and it's people and facilities DESPITE IT'S HORRIBLE HUMIDITY because it has SUPERB AIR-CONDITIONING everywhere ! Bliss ! Brilliant !
Europe WAS "THE CENTRE of learning and Technology and the seat-of-everything-sensible" and it produced what we now regard as CIVILISATION while it was surrounded by barbarity and ignorance in MOST of the rest of the world ! Fortunately , it developed "colonies" which adopted these brilliant and dynamic ideas and which , despite every effort being made by "elitist marxists" to eliminate and destroy them , they still persist in rare and threatened "pockets of positivity and prosperity and reason" in places like Australia , America and India and less so in Canada and the African States where ideology has destroyed most of the academic learning [ and even most of the arcane learning too ! ] and replaced it with basically NOTHING , no equivalent , just a cowardly climate cult , cringing in fear and despair .........even though any rational grasp of science would prove that , for the vast majority of us in the Western World , "we have never had it so good" !
Pessimism prevails ! Science struggles ! Housing is hopeless ! Present Politicians and Political Ideology and Education urgently need replacing !! But some things never change : Fortunately for us all , Gina Rinehart continues to 'prop up the economy' ......bless her !

Sadly , Europe has imported a huge number of people who do NOT subscribe to anything remotely like those traditional values and sensibilities ! It also imported the "climate catastrophe cult" and in East Anglia it helped design it and launch it on a gullible and pathetic public which has learned to accept anything-and-everything as long as it is FREE and comes with a GOVERNMENT CASH HANDOUT !
