Good to see your reference to optimism, "rational optimists like the late University of Maryland economist Julian Simon. The latter’s insight was that human beings themselves are the “ultimate resource” making all other resources more plentiful"
Reply to Radek : "On that point Malthus was the one who was correct (well, more correct). Why do they let ignorant twits like this guy write such nonsense? "
Perhaps .....in the "spirit of Christmas" [ generosity ] and they actually believe in "freedom" and "freedom of speech"..............much as Radek is allowed to express his ( malice , mostly wrong) opinion !
Ugh that Forbes article is terrible though. Very unfair to Malthus (not an "amateur economist" but one of the most prominent ones of his generation, for starters) and... just gets stuff completely wrong. The debate between Say and Malthus wasn't regarding overpopulation or the wonders of trade. It was about the possibility of *overproduction* (genetal glut) with Say famously arguing that "supply creates its own demand". On that point Malthus was the one who was correct (well, more correct). Why do they let ignorant twits like this guy write such nonsense?
